WATCH MY VIDEO.Five years ago, Henny walked out of our shelter as a happy puppy, surrounded by hope and beginning the life every shelter dog dreams about. He thought he was home forever. Sadly, life doesn't always go as planned. Through no fault of his own, Henny is back with us because the family who loved him lost their home and could no longer keep him. The hardest part isn't just seeing Henny back in a kennel. It's watching him search. He looks around every day, as if he's waiting for his family to walk through the door and take him back home. You can see the sadness in his eyes, and it breaks our hearts knowing he doesn't understand why everything he knew disappeared. Despite the heartbreak he's experiencing, Henny hasn't stopped loving people. This handsome 5 year old Shepherd mix is as sweet as they come. He can be a little shy when meeting someone new, but all it takes is a little patience and a kind voice for his loving personality to shine. Before long, he'll be leaning into you for pets, following you wherever you go, and asking for just one more cuddle. In fact, our volunteers joke that if you stop petting him, he'll let you know with a bark because he's simply not ready for the affection to end. Henny is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with his people. He loves affection, enjoys interactive play, and is happiest just being close to the people he loves. While he has moments of playful energy and enjoys stretching his legs with a good run, he's equally content curling up beside you for a relaxing evening on the couch. If you're searching for the perfect couch potato to binge watch your favorite shows with, Henny would gladly volunteer for the job. He's housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, comes when called, and has impressed both our staff and volunteers with his friendly, affectionate nature. Everyone who spends time with him walks away talking about what a sweetheart he is and what a wonderful companion he'll make. His previous family shared that he does well with people, loves children as young as 1 year old, and has lived successfully with both dogs and cats. As always, we recommend a dog meet for any potential canine siblings to help everyone get off to the best start. Henny doesn't ask for much. A soft place to rest. Gentle hands to pet him. A family to love. Most of all, he wants the security of knowing he won't have to lose his home again. His first family loved him but circumstances changed their lives forever. Now Henny is hoping someone will open their heart and give him the second chance he so desperately deserves. The sadness in his eyes doesn't have to be the end of his story. Maybe the next person he follows around won't have to say goodbye.
