Raven
Miniature Pinscher (medium coat) · Male
Just listed at Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, Springfield, MA
OTHER PETS: Raven adores attention and is eager to play, making him a good fit for another dog that can match his energy. He can be unsure about some dogs, though, and may approach them only to start barking, which can be off-putting or intimidating to the other dog. He would do best with a tolerant, playful dog, but as always will need to meet any dogs he may be living with prior to adoption. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Raven is playful and enjoys the every bit of attention that people will give him. Being the bundle of energy that Raven is, though, he'll need a lot of attention to help him settle down. Someone who has previous experience with excitement in dogs would be a great fit for Raven. [Some Experience] KIDS: Raven is comfortable with new people and handling, but his level of excitement could be to much for young kids. Regardless, interactions between children and dogs should always be closely monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe. [12+ (Must Meet First] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Raven has shown signs of being over-aroused in the shelter--meaning his way of coping with stress or anxiety is to get over-excited and jumpy. While this could change greatly in a home environment, he will still need time to decompress and settle once out of the shelter. He would do best with various kinds of both mental and physical enrichment to help him learn to relax. Because of this, someone with the time and energy to give Raven this attention is a must. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Raven has shown himself to be a bit of a counter-surfer, and is fond of jumping up on both people and objects. He is still at the beginning of his training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Raven not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner. [Moderate]GROOMING: [Minimal]
