Freddy
Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat) · Male · 1 yr 1 mo
Just listed at Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, Springfield, MA
OTHER PETS: Freddy was playful and communicated well with another young dog of similar size; while he was interested in a smaller dog, he also exhibited signs of prey drive during play and therefore should not live with cats or smaller dogs. Freddy would do best with a playful, well-socialized dog and should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption.[NO LITTLE DOGS, NO CATS (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn, as well as experience providing varied enrichment, teaching new skills ang playing games. [Special Experience] KIDS: Freddy is jumpy around humans, and as any dog is uncomfortable with hugs, doesn't love his mouth touched, and demonstrated his aptitude for counter surfing while at TJO. He often seeks attention, enjoys playing with toys independently and with humans, and has not engaged in resource-guarding while at the shelter. We want Freddy to be set up for success so his human family members should be old enough to understand how to interact with him safely during both play and down-time, and mindful of leaving out dangerous human food that might make Freddy sick. All minors should be actively supervised for everyone's safety. [13+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Freddy will thrive with regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, scent games, playtime, and learning fun tricks. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Routine Brushing]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Freddy bond with his new owner while building confidence and learning new skills and fun tricks.
